About Credit.org

Established in 1974, Credit.org is a national nonprofit financial wellness organization, recognized as one of the earliest U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved nonprofit and consumer credit counseling services (CCCS) agencies nationwide. Our HUD-approved housing counseling programs have consistently improved housing outcomes for first-time homebuyers, homeowners, renters, and those overcoming homelessness. 

Throughout our history, Credit.org has remained unwavering in its dedication to improving the lives and financial stability of diverse communities, with a special focus on underserved, low-income, and marginalized groups. Our extensive array of services of financial literacy, credit and debt management, and housing counseling programs have reached individuals across the country, benefiting over 25,000+ people annually. Our financial education and counseling programs are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual in achieving sustainable housing security, promoting intergenerational wealth, preventing eviction, navigating mortgage default/foreclosure challenges, managing debt including student loans, rebuilding credit, and mastering budgeting and money management skills.

Our goal is to provide the financial tools, one step at a time, for our clients to achieve immediate solutions to their debt problems.

Our Goals

The goal of Credit.org is to provide a comprehensive online hub of personal finance education and learning resources that guide consumers in improving their personal finances. Our mission is to provide financial education to members of the public and families and individuals in need. Financial education is the core focus of our organization and Credit.org offers confidential and professional credit counseling, debt management services, bankruptcy education, and housing counseling as well as online personal finance education and in-person seminars.

Credit.org is dedicated to providing confidential and professional counseling to aid and rehabilitate financially distressed families and individuals regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, familial or marital status, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, receipt of public assistance, good faith exercise of any rights under the Consumer Credit Protection Act or disability (as the same is defined in The Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, 42 USC § 12101-13 and any regulation promulgated thereunder) or any other unlawful basis.

We serve all members of the community. Services will not be denied for any reason, including the need for counseling without a debt management plan, unemployment, self-employment, or types of debt.
