Inland Empire Youth Poster Contest Stresses Importance of Financial Responsibility

October 24, 2007, 9:53 am

Springboard sponsors the Riverside and San Bernardino county participation in the nationwide BE MONEY WI$E poster contest.

In anticipation of financial literacy month in April of 2008, Springboard Non-profit Consumer Credit Management invites elementary through high school students in Riverside and San Bernardino counties to participate for the chance to win the nationwide BE MONEY WI$E poster contest and help promote the importance of wise money management.
Springboard will choose from the entries it receives, the local poster in each grade category best conveying the theme “Financial Responsibility Begins with Me”. The three grade-specific categories are: Elementary (3rd-5th grade), Middle (6th-8th grade), and High
(9th-12th grade). Springboard invites participation from local youth groups, faith-based organizations, and other community youth programs as well as local schools. According to Dee Ann Chandler, Springboard’s Education Director, “The poster contest is an excellent opportunity to promote financial education to young students as well as a positive lesson for people of all ages. Our agency is awarding a $100 savings bond and trophy to each elementary, middle school, and high school winner of our local contest; and all local participants will also receive certificates.”
Springboard will submit the local winner from each category to the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) where it will be judged against other entries from across the United States. National grade category winners will receive a t-shirt, plaque, and $100 savings bond, while the overall national winner will receive a t-shirt, plaque, a $500 savings bond and an all-expense paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, DC, to be recognized during Financial Literacy Month in April of 2008.
The deadline for submitting posters to Springboard for judging is Friday March 7, 2008. Local educators will receive letters with details on how to submit entries, or they may contact Springboard for complete rules and a poster contest entry form. Call 1-800-947-3752 and speak with Michelle Mealey at extension 817, or visit Springboard’s website at www.credit.org/ to download complete rules and an entry form.
